Some Tidbits on Tulips

shutterstock_248293039Almost synonymous with springtime, tulips begin blooming in March and continue to share their colors through May. Tulips were first cultivated in Turkey around 1000 A.D., but were growing wildly in the region much earlier. Since their cultivation, they spread rapidly, taking root across Europe, Asia, and eventually the rest of the world. Today, around one hundred species are recognized and over three thousand different varieties of tulips have been documented. These large numbers lend to a wide variety in appearance and color. Tulips bloom in almost every color of the rainbow including green, orange, yellow, pink, red, purple, white, multicolor, and a purple that is so dark it appears nearly black. They also grow to varied heights and feature differently shaped petals. In addition, some varieties of tulips bloom in clusters and others individually. Despite the plant’s variance in appearance, tulips all symbolize one thing – springtime. This spring, our professional florists at Trias Flowers, Weddings & Events look forward to hanging up our winter coats, opening the windows, and selecting the perfect tulip arrangements to help you and your loved ones celebrate the season.
